Learning Experience Design

Methodology

The training follows the SAM model for iterative instructional design, development, and evaluation, and Mayer’s 12 Principles of Multimedia Learning.

Training Purpose

This concept project is a gamified and scenario-based training experience that teaches foundational sales strategies to new sales associates at a scuba diving shop.

Business Need

New employees need an onboarding training program.

The Problem and Solution

A scuba diving shop that specializes in scuba gear, classes, and excursions recognizes that while many of their employees are knowledgeable in scuba diving and gear, most of them do not have any prior sales training or experience. The company has decided to develop an onboarding training program that includes training in basic sales strategies for all their new hires to complete.

Savvy Start

The initial meeting involved establishing goals and outcomes for the training. The stakeholders had a clear vision in mind and wanted the learning solution to include the company’s consumer business model and address the common pitfalls they see their sales associates encountering on the sales floor. I worked with the SME to organize internal content and consulted best practices for additional points.

The Plan and Prototype

During the planning stage we determined the type of learning solution and overall look and feel of the training. The company wanted the training to complement their area of business and chose to go with an adventurous and gamified eLearning experience. They also chose to focus on scenario-based learning with no formal assessment at the end. Once the storyboard was approved, we moved to prototyping and testing with feedback to ensure satisfaction with the final learning experience.

After review, feedback, and approval, the final eLearning experience was developed using Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Illustrator, Freepik, and Google Slides.
